The remains of a person outrunning someone - or possibly something - he's not willing to explain.

Scared, alone, and coming rapidly to the conclusion that he's going to die any minute now, if he hasn't already. He's half-dead and starving when he meets a guy named Mal who's also running scared, in some place he's already forgotten on the east coast, and this Mal offers him a ride to go wherever he's going. And after days of obfuscation on both sides, it turns out neither of them were going anywhere in particular.

They stay together and slowly, with time, together, they both begin to heal.
